Operational Instrument & Terms of Service
Effective Date & Governance Timeline
These Terms of Service and Venue Guidelines became legally binding and effective on 2026-10-13. They supersede all previous published operational summaries, brochures, or oral terms governing digital inquiries submitted through malapropsbookstore.com.
Continuing to access this site, submitting book procurement inquiries, submitting reading group registrations, or initiating event space feasibility consultations signifies your full agreement to the standards set out herein.
Entity Information & Physical Domicile
This agreement is established between the visitor and Malapropsbookstore, trading publicly at malapropsbookstore.com as Malaprop's Bookstore/Cafe.
Our permanent commercial headquarters and single physical storefront is located at 55 Haywood St, Asheville, North Carolina 28801, Asheville, North Carolina, United States. Telephone communications are routed to 828-254-6734, and written correspondence is received at [email protected].
Founded in 1982 by Emöke B’Rácz, our enterprise operates as an independent retail bookshop, speciality espresso cafe, and literary forum under the laws of the State of North Carolina.
Service Scope & Online Platform Limitations
The digital platform malapropsbookstore.com serves as an informational index, physical floor dispatch, literary event calendar, and structured inquiry gateway for:
- Inspecting current curated trade literature, Appalachian studies, small press collections, and poetry editions on our Asheville shelves.
- Reviewing our speciality cafe espresso specifications, bean origins, pour-over methods, and in-store beverage policies.
- Registering for author readings, public book signings, and community literary salons running 60 to 90 minutes.
- Submitting feasibility parameters for private literary venue rentals, corporate book purchases, and hybrid event broadcast production.
This platform does not operate an automated retail shopping cart, digital checkout funnel, or payment card vault. We do not provide software subscriptions, digital rights management files, algorithmic reader profiling, or remote automated drop-shipping.
Inquiry-Only Transactions & Order Formation
Nothing presented on this site constitutes a binding unilateral commercial offer or a completed transaction. We do not sell or collect payment for books, beverages, or private venue hires directly on malapropsbookstore.com.
Every price basis stated on our literature or cafe pages is an estimate based on publisher list prices or current cafe bar rates. Figures generated by the interactive Event Space Fit Tool are operational estimates designed to test venue feasibility; they do not represent binding price quotes.
A commercial transaction is formed only when:
- You submit an inquiry via
totud78.php, contact our floor staff by phone at 828-254-6734, or speak directly with booksellers at our 55 Haywood St floor counter. - Our staff inspect physical inventory, publisher distribution timetables, and floor booking schedules.
- Our staff transmit an itemized confirmation quote via direct email or in-person written invoice specifying exact availability, sales tax, and delivery or pickup terms.
- You affirmatively accept that written quote through standard payment settlement conducted directly at our store register or via an approved invoice transaction.
Pricing Basis, Currency & Fee Variations
All financial figures and price references across this site are denominated in USD (United States Dollars).
Book pricing reflects publisher list prices (typically $27.00 to $32.00 for trade hardcovers and $16.00 to $24.00 for small press paperbacks) but remains subject to publisher reprint revisions, freight charges for special orders, and applicable North Carolina state and Buncombe County sales taxes.
Private event venue quotes and buyout rates vary according to specific criteria: floor area required (Poetry Alcove versus Main Floor), event format (in-store reading versus hybrid live stream), total duration (standard 60 to 90 min runtime versus extended evening bookings), attendee headcount (up to 25 seated in alcove, up to 65 seated on main floor, or overflow streams), scheduled date and calendar demand, and cafe beverage catering consumption ($0 for none, $150 for drip and pastry service, or $350 for dedicated barista service).
General attendance registration for our scheduled public author readings is free of charge, subject to fire marshal room capacity limits.
